Bee boxes
Now, Who wants to know about bees? For those of you who do, cool.
(Note: before we start, I just want to say that there are a lot of other ways to make bee boxes and that this was done with research and some people might have other ideas on how to make bee boxes)
So, a basic way to make a bee box.
1. Figure out what type of bees you want. This ones for carpenter bees.
2. Get your 'ingredients'. For this one all you need is a 'dressed' 2" by 4". You can also use a normal one but I prefer the dressed ones. High grade rope, or chain. Exterior grade plywood, 3.5" by 5.5". And a bunch of screws, about 1" to 1.5" long.
3. Cut your wood into three pieces, 7" long in measure.
4. Screw your pieces of wood together and make sure that they are at least an inch apart.
5. Drill 1" deep holes 2 cementers away from each other, if you don't have enough room from the edges then leave it, and make sure you placed the screws away from the holes so that you don't drill into them. If you have to fix the screws, to it now.
6. Screw on your top board (the plywood), then screw on the chain so that it is not at an angle.
7. Place your box in or hanging off of a tree, about two metres off of the ground. Place the box near a spot where there is light at least half of the day and where there is usually mud. (Note: do not place on top of mud, young bees are weaker and sometimes land on the ground, if there is mud then they could suffocate)
8. (Optional) Add a small amount of mouse urine to the edge of some of the holes to attract bees, you can also use sugar water.
Enjoy, and hopefully the bees will like your box and eventually garden!
